Flat Stanley and his French cousin Pierre visit a shepherd's hut in Provence. The hut is called a "borie" and is made entirely of stones--no cement.

Flat Stanley visits the Pont du Gard, an aqueduct built by the Romans 2000 years ago to carry water. The aqueduct went around and through mountains and over rivers and valleys for over 50 miles. It was made of stones--no cement. The water flowed across the very top of the Pont du Gard.

Flat Stanley visits the Roman arena in Arles, where gladiators fought 2000 years ago and today people go to watch bull fights.

Flat Stanley visits the ruins of a Roman theater in Arles (in Provence in the south of France). The theater was built about 2000 years ago.

Flat Stanley is about to board the super fast train called the "TGV." It goes almost 200 miles an hour, so it shouldn't take long to get to Provence in the south of France.

Flat Stanley's Paris Passport

Dear Kiko,

Your Flat Stanley came all the way to my city, Paris France.

While he was here, these are some of the exciting things he saw and did: He visited the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre art museum, and many parks.

The distance between your town and my city is approximately 5558 miles.

If Flat Stanley should come back to visit, he should wear a sweater, because the climate here is usually cool.

Some other interesting facts about my city include: Paris is the capital of France. It is a world-famous city and a very beautiful one. The river Seine runs right through the middle of the city, and it is very enjoyable to walk along the river. The city has many beautiful buildings, a few are even 800 years old but most are up to 400 years old and some are brand-new. Many famous monuments are located in Paris: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre palace, Notre-Dame cathedral. Flat Stanley visited all of these. Among the famous people who lived here are Napoleon, The Sun King, and Ernest Hemingway.

My name and return address is: Dave and Carolyn Lougee, 1811 Fulton Street, Palo Alto, California 94303

Happy travels Flat Stanley!
